Markus Pertlwieser appointed as Country Manager for Nordnet Bank in Germany

Markus Pertlwieser has been appointed as Head of Nordnets future operations in Germany. He will start his role on May 1, 2025.

Nordnet is the leading digital platform for savings and investments in the Nordics, currently serving over two million customers and operating in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland. In January 2025, it was announced that Nordnet intends to establish operations in Germany during the second half of 2026.

Markus Pertlwieser has extensive experience in the financial market in both a German and a European context. Between 2001 and 2008, he worked at the consulting firm McKinsey, focusing on the financial sector. From 2008 to 2020, Markus held various positions at Deutsche Bank, including Chief Operating Officer and Chief Digital Officer of the Retail and Commercial Banking Unit. In 2021-2022, Markus was the CEO of Penta, a digital bank for small and medium-sized enterprises. Penta was sold to the French bank Qonto in 2022. Since then, Markus has worked in various roles as an advisor and board member.

“I am very pleased to welcome Markus Pertlwieser to Nordnet as Country Manager of our German operations. Markus has extensive experience in the German financial industry and combines high-level strategic competence with operational decisiveness and a well-documented track record of excellent leadership. With Markus on board, we are optimizing our chances of success in the German market”, says Lars-Åke Norling, CEO of Nordnet.

The German market for savings and investments is the largest in Europe, more than twice the size of the combined Nordic savings markets. This is despite the fact that only approximately 17 percent of the adult population currently holds savings in stocks or mutual funds. However, this share is continuously increasing, meaning that Germany offers a significant and growing potential for Nordnet.

”I am very much looking forward to my upcoming assignment to lead Nordnet’s German operations. Nordnet has long proven its ability to build a superior offering within savings and investments, regarding both product range and user-experience. I strongly believe in Nordnet’s strategy and purpose, and I am very excited to work with my new colleagues to democratize the German savings market and provide individuals with access to the same tools, information, and service as professional investors,” says Markus Pertlwieser, incoming Country Manager Germany at Nordnet.

Markus is 50 years old and based in Frankfurt. He will commence his role as Country Manager for Nordnet’s German operations on May 1, 2025. Markus reports to group CEO Lars-Åke Norling and is a member of Nordnet’s executive management team.
